Materials:
Approx. 100 yds chunky yarn OR
Approx. 80 yds each of two contrasting colors of WW yarn (hold both colors together throughout)
J or K Hook (a smaller hook makes a slightly smaller hat)
Round 1: Chain 4 (counts as first DC). 11 DC in 3rd chain from hook. Join. (12 DC)
Round 2: Ch. 3(counts as first DC). 2DC in each DC around. Join. (24 DC)
Round 3: Ch. 3(counts as first DC). [2DC in the next DC, DC in the next DC] around. Join. (36 DC)
Round 4: Ch. 3(counts as first DC). [2DC in the next DC, DC in the next 2 DC] around. Join. (48 DC)
Rounds 5 – 12: Ch. 3(counts as first DC). DC in each DC around. Join. (48 DC)
Round 13: Ch. 2, TURN. HDC in the opposite direction around (48 HDC). If you are using two contrasting colors of WW yearn, you may want to drop one color for this round and just use a single color. That will add an accent row, as pictured above. I dropped the variegated and just used the brown for the last row.
Finish off. Cut yarn. Weave in ends.
