Operation Christmas Box Slippers

I was looking for a warm yet easy teen-size slipper to make for the Operation Christmas Boxes that my children were filling at church. I couldn’t find a pattern that I liked, so I squished several ideas together and came up with two versions. One is just a plain slip-on (black & rainbow) and one is “Mary Jane” style with a buttoned strap (blues & greens).

Size: Teen/Adult Small (but stretchy)

Materials: K hook, 2 strands of WW yarn held together (about 150 yds. of each)

Round 1: chain 3, 6 HDC in 2nd chain from hook. Join. (6 HDC)
Round 2: ch2, 2 HDC in each stitch around. Join. (12 HDC)
Round 3: ch2, HDC in the next 2 stitches, 2HDC in the next stitch around. Join. (18 HDC)
Round 4: ch2, HDC in the next 3 stitches, 2HDC in the next stitch around. Join. (24 HDC)
Rounds 5 - 15: ch2, HDC in each stitch around. Join. (24 HDC)
You’re working in rows now.
Row 16: ch2, HDC in the first 18 HDC. Leave the remaining HDC unworked. Turn. (18 HDC)
Rows 17 - 25: ch2, HDC in each stitch across. Turn. (18 HDC)
Sew up the heel.

For the strapless version (black and brights), join ONE strand of yarn at the top of the heel. SC 28 stitches evenly around the foot opening.

For the version with a strap (blues & greens), join ONE strand of yarn at the heel.SC evenly across 8 rows. Make strap by CH 15, HDC 13 stitches back down the chain, then continue SC around the foot opening for 20 more stitches. Attach a button on the other side that is small enough to go between two HDC on the strap.
